Two alums named Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholars

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that two alumni, Étienne Cossette-Lefebvre, BCL/LLB'14, and Raphaël Grenier-BenoÎt, BCL/LLB'19, are among the of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation. The finalists were selected for their demonstrated academic excellence, leadership and commitment, as well as their openness to multiple perspectives, boldness and resilience.

is pursuing a PhD at the University of Toronto. His dissertation offers transsystemic perspectives on the idea of self-ownership to explain a person's rights over their body, image, voice and personal information. He was appointed deputy director of the Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private and Comparative Law in 2020.

is a PhD studen t is a doctoral student at the University of Oxford’s Faculty of Law. Fascinated by issues at the intersection of law, politics, and morality, his research focuses on constitutional interpretation and on the role of the judiciary in harmonizing law to social change.

About the Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation Leadership Awards Program

In addition to receiving a fellowship, the Scholars will embark on a three-year leadership journey, rooted in the Foundation’s leadership curriculum. They will learn to translate their research into action, and become leaders of self, leaders among others, and leaders of systems. The membrers of the 2021 cohort will be able to expand their horizons beyond their own field of study and delve deep into a subject of critical importance at a time when interdisciplinary communication and openness are essential for rebuilding our global community.
