Inaugural Spiegel Sohmer Tax Policy Colloquium

The Faculty of Law and the Stikeman Chair in Tax Law are pleased to announce the creation of the Spiegel Sohmer Tax Policy Colloquium, to be hosted annually at 成人VR视频 starting this Fall 2014 term.

The Spiegel Sohmer Tax Policy Colloquium has been made possible by a generous grant from the law firm Spiegel Sohmer, for the purpose of fostering an academic community in which learning and scholarship may flourish.

New Faces at the Faculty for Fall 2014

The Faculty is delighted to welcome three new members of the Law community this fall: Professor S茅bastien Jodoin, Anne-Sophie Hulin and Justice Louise Provost.

S茅bastien Jodoin (first photo) joined the Faculty as Assistant Professor on August 1st. Professor Jodoin is currently completing a PhD in environmental studies (law and public policy) at Yale, where is also a Faculty Associate of the Governance, Environment & Markets Initiative.

Professor Andrea Bjorkland, the L. Yves Fortier Chair in International Arbitration and International Commercial Law, was delighted to receive more than 80 submissions from scholars and junior practitioners affiliated with more than 50 institutions for the 2014 Nappert Prize in International Arbitration.

William Tetley (1927 鈥 2014)

It is with sadness that the Faculty announces the death of Professor聽William Tetley, C.M., Q.C., LL.L., who passed away, surrounded by his family, on July 1, 2014.

A world-renowned expert in maritime law, Professor Tetley led an extremely full life.

Student Ngozi Okidegbe to present at International AIDS Conference in Australia

Third year Law student Ngozi Okidegbe has been selected to present her paper, "Litigating HIV-related discrimination in Nigeria: implications of Georgina Ahamefule v. Imperial Medical Centre and Dr. Molokwu," 鈥 written under the supervision of Professor Vrinda Narain 鈥 at the 20th International AIDS Conference, which will take place July 20-25, 2014, in Melbourne, Australia.

Justice Cl茅ment Gascon (BCL鈥81) named to Supreme Court of Canada

On June 4, Prime Minister Stephen Harper named Mr. Justice Cl茅ment Gascon (BCL鈥81) to the nation鈥檚 highest court, replacing Mr. Justice Morris Fish (BCL鈥62), who retired last August after a decade on the Supreme Court.

The Faculty of Law offers Justice Gascon its warmest congratulations.

Roderick Macdonald receives 成人VR视频 Medal

On May 28, Roderick Macdonald was awarded in absentia the 成人VR视频 Medal for Exceptional Academic Achievement, one of the University鈥檚 highest honours. Macdonald received the 成人VR视频 Medal as part of the Convocation ceremony for the Faculty of Law, where he taught thousands of students over the course of a distinguished career that spanned more than three decades. Professor Daniel Jutras, Dean of the Faculty of Law, accepted the Medal in Professor Macdonald鈥檚 name.
