Deborah Davis curated a recent exhibition in New York City, "TEXTiles; the Woven Word" and will share her insights into the world of contemporary textile artists. About the Speakers:
Deborah Goodman Davis is an art advisor and curator who helps her clients to build quality collections of contemporary art & photography. A native of Montreal, Debbie has over 30 years experience in the art world, beginning with summer internships at the Montreal of Fine Arts in the 1980s. She has held positions at The Art Institute of Chicago, The Yale University Art Gallery, The Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University, and Sotheby’s London. Her 2012 children’s book, Speeding Down the Spiral: An Artful Adventure, about a family’s trip to the Guggenheim Museum, received the Mom’s Choice Silver Medal Prize. She also edited PhotoRX: Pharmacy in Photography Since 1850, a catalogue dedicated to the photography collection of Pharmascience, Inc. in 2017. Debbie chairs the Friends of Photography Acquisitions Committee and is a member of the Advisory Council of the Herbert F. Johnson Museum at Cornell University; she serves on the Humanities Council at the University of Chicago and chairs the Contemporary Art Acquisitions Committee and is a Board Member of the American Friends of the Israel Museum. She received a BA from Cornell University and an MA from the University of Chicago, both in Art History.
Gwendolyn OwensÌýis Director, Visual Arts Collection, ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ. Her scholarly publications include articles, exhibition catalogues, and books on artist/architect Gordon Matta-Clark; painters Maurice Prendergast, Lawren Harris, and David Milne; Montreal artist/architect Melvin Charney; 20thcentury art markets; and kitchen wallpaper. She is currently researching the art of Marian Dale Scott.
