Nov. 15 - 18 | Inspection of Fire Alarms, Sprinklers & Extinguishers at McLennan-Redpath
Posted on behalf of ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ Campus Public Safety
As part of ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ’s ongoing efforts towards ensuring a safe environment, the Fire Prevention service will once again be performing annual inspections of the fire detection and suppression systems. This year Leclerc will be performing these tests which involve verifying all components of systems within each building.
Building affected: McLennan-Redpath Complex
Dates: Tuesday, November 15 to Friday, November 18, 2022
Proper signalization will be installed at strategic points throughout the building, to advise incoming staff, students, and visitors that tests are underway. The signalization will be removed when the inspection is completed.
Fire alarm inspections consist of:
- Ringing of the fire bells will occur one time and will take place no later than 07:30 AM. This is a necessary measure aimed at ensuring that all bells function within normal parameters. Depending on the size of the building, the testing should last anywhere between 5 minutes to 1 hour.ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý
- A systematic room-to-room testing of all smoke/heat detectors. The process involves smoking or heating each detector until they react and sending a signal to the fire panel. This process requires between 1 to 3 minutes per detector.
- A systematic test of all manual pull stations. All manual pull stations are pulled and reset.
Sprinkler inspections consist of:
- Visual room-to-room inspection of each sprinkler head.
- Further system tests conducted in the sprinkler room.
Thank you for your ongoing cooperation and for helping us to ensure that our community can work, study, and visit in the safest possible environment. Should you have any concerns or questions concerning these verifications, feel free to contact Campus Public Safety.
