The LLDRL welcomes two researchers in residence from Spring to Summer 2018

The spring and summer seasons of 2018 will bring听two researchers to the LLDRL, in collaboration with the O鈥橞rien Fellowship Program听administered by the Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism at the Faculty of Law.听

Professor Radha D'Souza

From March through June 2018, the LLDRL will welcome听O鈥橞rien Fellow听Professor听Radha D鈥橲ouza. Radha D鈥橲ouza is a critical scholar, activist, barrister and writer, who has lived and worked in India, New Zealand and the UK. She is currently a Reader in Law at the University of Westminster.听Her research straddles legal studies, development studies, sociology, geography, theory, comparative philosophy, and history. D鈥橲ouza鈥檚 work is well-known for its interdisciplinary breadth and for critically听engaging theories and practices within social movements.

Her book听Contextualising Interstate Disputes Over Krishna Waters: Law, Science and Imperialism听(Orient Longman India, 2006) is perhaps the only major critical work on interstate disputes over rivers within a federal constitution in a developing country context. Her work brings to light the legal, institutional, scientific, technological, and historical dimensions of the ongoing conflicts over Krishna waters in India. Her recent book听What鈥檚 Wrong with Rights? Social Movements, Law and Liberal Imaginations听(Pluto, 2018) maps听for the first time the transformations in the regime of international rights to the transformations in post-World War capitalism.

Professor Lorena Poblete

From April through July 2018, the LLDRL will welcome O'Brienf Fellow Dr. Lorena Poblete. Lorena Poblete is a researcher at Argentina鈥檚 National Research Council (CIS-CONICET/IDES) and Associate Professor at the National University of San Mart铆n (IDAES-UNSAM). She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the 脡cole des Hautes 脡tudes en Sciences Sociales (Paris) and听a DEA in Ethnology and Anthropology from the same university, and a Master's in Social Sciences from FLACSO (Argentina).
