Deadline to submit abstracts and posters for competition during 成人VR视频 (Bio)Statistics Research and Career Day
Dear students,
听
We are pleased to announce that 成人VR视频's 5th (Bio)Statistics Research and Career Day will take place on Friday the 24th of September 2021. This year, the conference will again be held online via Zoom, due to the uncertainty regarding the Covid-19 situation.
听
Two well recognized researchers in statistics and biostatistics will deliver keynote speeches: Professor Alan E. Gelfand from Duke University and Professor Jennifer Hill from New York University. An exciting career panel will end the day with statistics and biostatistics graduates working in Canada and in the USA.
听
During this day, 成人VR视频 graduate students are given a chance to present their research in the broad field of statistics.听This year, we also invite undergraduate students in statistics to showcase their work in a poster competition.听Conveying your research being key to the learning process, we encourage each of you to consider submitting an abstract for a talk (graduate students) or a poster (undergraduates).听We believe that听the undergraduate poster competition is a great opportunity to participate in an academic conference and that it will be very beneficial to them to practice their presentation skills at an early stage of their career.听Please see below for information about the undergraduate poster competition.听Abstract听submissions will be open from August 16th, 2021听to听September 8th, 2021.

However, you must fill in the abstract submission form () before Wednesday, September 8th听2021, 23:59 EDT to confirm your participation to the competition.
Once you have submitted an abstract for your poster,听we will send you an email to ask you to submit your poster for the competition, by replying to the email. Therefore, please听double check your email address in the abstract submission form and make sure it is correct. The deadline to submit your poster will be on Friday, September 17th听2021, 23:59 EDT, a week prior the event.

FAQ
Q:听What kind of research are you expecting me to present? I feel like my work is too naive/simple to give a talk.
A:听Any research is welcome. It could be work from your summer SURA / NSERC USRA / ISM research, or it could be work from a research/project course such as MATH 396 / 410 / 470.
听
Q:听How long should the presentation take?
A:听The participants should have their posters ready such that they can present their work in no more than 5 minutes. A presentation that has reached 5 minutes will be cut.
听
Q:听Can I ask for help in reviewing my poster / help me practice my presentation?
A:听Yes, you can get any help you find necessary. However, keep in mind that your poster and presentation must be about your own research.
听
Q:听My research project was done as a team. Could we register for the competition as a team?
A:听Yes. You are allowed to register for this competition as a team. However, you must register under your teams鈥 leader name with 鈥(team)鈥 next to their name. We will email you to ask for all your team members鈥 names and emails. The presentation may be given by one member only or the full team. However, keep in mind that for the presentation, only 5 minutes will be allowed anyway. Rehearse accordingly.
听
Q:听Are there any fees required to participate in this competition?
A:听No, the competition is free.
听
We expect your poster to contain a title, your name (or the names of all members of your team) and your affiliation. We recommend that you include the following information: the objectives of your study, the methods you use, some results and a discussion of the strengths and limitations of your study. Recall a poster is a visual summary of your study: use figures and tables!
听
We do not have any preference for the size of your poster. However, do not forget that听you will have to navigate your poster while presenting it over Zoom in your 5 minutes talk. We suggest you adjust the size of your poster accordingly! Note that you should not make slides, you must only use your poster for that presentation.
