McISCE Catalyst Innovation Fund

Call for proposalsÌý

TheÌýFund supports new and innovative energy research that would be challenging to fund through the regular tri-council channels.ÌýWe are hoping to receive proposals from colleagues working in all the axes.

Up to twelve $25,000 CIF grants will be allocated in 2024.

Once granted, you will be able to use the funds over a 2-year period. The funds are for discretionary use. The project leaders are required to report annually to

McISCE and must agree to the title being displayed publicly.

Eligibility Criteria

1. CIF project proposals must be led by two McISCE members. The expected contribution from eachÌý Ìý Ìý member must be significant, but not necessarily equal. We encourage interdisciplinarity.

2. McISCE will only fund projects that have a strong energy focus.

3. New and promising ideas related to energy research that are not already funded that:

Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý i. will ultimately translate into fundamental breakthroughs,

Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý ii. address complex issues about individuals and societies, and the energy transition towards aÌý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý sustainable society,

and/or

Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý iii. have the potential to grow in the future through collaboration, partnership and/or additionalÌý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý external funding, eventuallyÌýleading to new technologies, services, or commercialization.

How to apply

Proposal:

  • Please use the template file (do not modify the margin, font size, etc.). You can find the template in the For Members section of the website.
  • The proposal should be a maximum of two pages. We recommend ≤ 0.5 page for the background and main goal, ≤ 1.25 page for the proposed research project (description of the main activities and budget items), and ≤ 0.25 for a justification for the team composition.
  • A third page may be used to list references and/or to add a figure helping the review committee visualize and appraise your project.

McISCE Catalyst Innovation Fund - Deadline Extended

The ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ Centre for Innovation in Storage and Conversion is launching the Energy Catalyst Innovation Fund (CIF). Up to ten $25,000 CIF grants will be awarded in 2023.

This fund will support high risk-high impact, yet feasible innovation-aiming projects at the Ideation and Maturation stages.

Ideation Grants

Supports new and promising ideas not already funded.

Maturation Grants

Supports ongoing projects with a demonstrable path to securing external funding and reporting results.

Important Dates - Deadline Extended

  • Proposal due date: Friday, February 10, 2023ÌýMonday, February 20, 2023
  • Decision and announcement: by Friday, February 24, 2023Ìýby Monday, March 6, 2023

Once granted, the funds can be used over a 2-year period. The project leaders (or their HQPs) will be required to present an annual update during a McISCE event (e.g., Members meeting, mini symposium, etc.).
