About the Bicentennial

For 200 years, ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ's Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences has been at the centre of health care education, research and patient care in Montreal. ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ has a long tradition of leadership in cancer care and research, notably Samuel Freedman and Phil Gold’s discovery of the world’s first cancer biomarker, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) in 1965, and Balfour Mount’s establishment of the discipline of palliative care in the 1970s. The Department of Oncology was founded in 1990 – the first such department in Canada – having been made possible by a generous donation from the Bronfman family (it was renamed the Gerald Bronfman Department of Oncology in 2016). It now comprises 22 divisions and programs and is actively involved in teaching and training of medical students, residents and fellows, as well as cancer research and patient care. Read more about history of the Department here and more about the Faculty’s history .

Students, residents, fellows, staff, faculty and the public are welcome to attend.
