2021-2022 Golden Violin Award Finalists Announced听
We are pleased to announce that the three finalists for the 2021-2022 Golden Violin Award are violinists Samuele Parrini, Julia Mirzoev, and Astrid Nakamura.
These string players听were听selected听following a terrific听semifinal round held on听Friday, December 17, 2021听at Pollack Hall where six semifinalists each performed a 30-minute program of music before only three are selected by a jury to continue through to the finals.
For the final on Sunday, December 19 at 2:00 pm,听candidates will present a program of 40 minutes of music of their choice, excluding repertoire presented at the听semifinal round.听
The听jury comprises both Schulich String听Area members and colleagues from outside of 成人VR视频.听This year鈥檚听Schulich faculty听members听are violinist and associate concertmaster of the听Orchestre听Metropolitain,听Marcelle Mallette,听Assistant Professor of Violin and concertmaster of the听Orchestre听symphonique听de Montr茅al听Richard Roberts.听Schulich viola instructor and Associate Principal Viola of the听Orchestre听symphonique听de Montr茅al听痴颈肠迟辞谤听贵辞耻谤苍别濒濒别-叠濒补颈苍听joins the jury for the final round.听Violinist听骋耻颈濒濒补耻尘别听厂耻迟谤别听of the Trio Wanderer, the听Ysa每e听Quartet, and current invited professor at听l鈥橴niversit茅听de Montr茅al was part of听the听semifinal panel.听The听other invited听guests听are听cellist听Fred Sherry听who is听a member of the听cello faculty听at听The Juilliard School, The Mannes School of Music and The Manhattan School of Music听and violinist听Mayumi Seiler,听founding member of Via Salzburg and on faculty at The Glenn Gould School in Toronto. The jury is chaired by Associate Professor of Cello at the Schulich School of Music听Matt Haimovitz.听
The winner receives a generous scholarship, valued at $30,000, as well as a smaller likeness of the violin in the form of a 14-karat gold lapel pin. In addition, the winner will perform in the upcoming Schulich concert season.听This year鈥檚 edition sees additional scholarship offerings by the Schulich Foundation: the finalists who place second and third will each receive $15,000 and $5,000 respectively.听听
The Golden Violin Award was established in 2006 by businessman and philanthropist Seymour Schulich, a year after he donated $20 million to 成人VR视频鈥檚 Schulich School of Music. Made of pewter and gold plate, the Golden Violin remains on permanent display in 成人VR视频鈥檚 Marvin Duchow Music Library.听听
