Using laser light guided through ultra-thin optic fibers in the brain of rodents, the researchers “turned on” light-sensitive proteins in selective brain cells and were able to eventually cause seizures through repeated laser stimulation. These findings were published March 27, 2019 in the journal Scientific Reports.
Wed, 27 Mar 2019 18:52:15 +0000 laurie.devine@mcgill.ca 154370 at /newsroom Andrea Bernasconi /newsroom/andrea-bernasconi Tue, 26 Feb 2019 16:59:44 +0000 Anonymous 23202 at /newsroom Jean Gotman /newsroom/jean-gotman Tue, 26 Feb 2019 16:59:44 +0000 Anonymous 23532 at /newsroom Eva Andermann /newsroom/eva-andermann Tue, 26 Feb 2019 16:59:44 +0000 Anonymous 23022 at /newsroom Martin Veilleux /newsroom/martin-veilleux Tue, 26 Feb 2019 16:59:44 +0000 Anonymous 23130 at /newsroom How insulin calms brain activity /newsroom/channels/news/how-insulin-calms-brain-activity-253761
Insulin has long been known as the hormone which controls the body’s sugar levels: humans who lack or are insensitive to insulin develop diabetes. Although insulin is also made and released in the brain, its effects there have remained unclear.

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 21:01:01 +0000 melody.enguix@mcgill.ca 24281 at /newsroom
