Dr. Angeliki Makri completed her medical school training in Athens, Greece and then moved to Montreal where she completed her MSc in Human Genetics at ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ. Following this, Dr. Makri completed my general pediatrics residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai/Elmhurst Residency program in New York City and clinical fellowship in endocrinology at the NIH in Bethesda, Maryland. In July 2019, she joined the academic pediatric endocrinology fellowship program at the Montreal Children's Hospital, after completion of which, she was recruited as an Assistant Professor at the Division of Endocrinology and as a Junior Scientist at the RI-MUHC. Dr. Makri was recently awarded the FRQS Junior 1 salary support award in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Health to develop her research program on the use of machine learning (ML) in type 1 diabetes (T1D). Dr. Marki’s research program aims to address crucial clinical questions in T1D using AI-based precision medicine methodologies; from identifying distinct disease subgroups that will allow precise diagnosis to developing prediction models for diabetes complications that will enable targeted prevention strategies. Dr. Makri shared that she is grateful to be part of the Department of Pediatrics at the MCH that offers an excellent and supportive academic environment.
