Dr. Larry Lands鈥 clinical research focuses on improving the functional capacity of those living with chronic conditions such as Cystic Fibrosis (CF) and obesity.听
Our goal is to improve the functional ability of those living with conditions that impair their breathing capacity. We are developing oscillometry as a simple non-invasive test to assess lung function across the lifespan. We are studying why some adolescents living with obesity have exercise limitation so that we can improve their level of fitness. Our laboratory-based research is focused on improving the function of the epithelial cells lining the airways in chronic lung disease including Cystic Fibrosis (CF), Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD), asthma, and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. We are developing novel inhaled lipid nanoparticles to deliver antisense oligonucleotide and mRNA constructs to correct the genetic mutations that cause CF and PCD, reduce inflammation in asthma, and rejuvenate the respiratory epithelium in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. As a member of the Department of Pediatrics, Dr. Lands shared that he gains from 鈥the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary clinical and scientific capacities across the Department鈥.
