From fundamental physics to child well-being, 成人VR视频 researchers advance discovery across disciplines聽

成人VR视频 has been awarded $18.1 million in federal funding to support 16 Canada Research Chairs 鈥 six new and 10 renewed.

The University鈥檚聽newly appointed聽CRCs聽will drive forward聽cutting-edge聽research in fields聽that include聽subatomic聽physics, food science and agricultural chemistry,聽and counselling psychology.聽Renewed Chairs聽will continue聽vital work in such areas as Parkinson鈥檚 disease,聽bioengineering, data聽ethics聽and intergenerational childhood trauma.

鈥淕uided by 成人VR视频鈥檚 newly launched Strategic Research Plan, our Canada Research Chairs lead ambitious,聽long鈥憈erm聽research that advances discovery and delivers聽real鈥憌orld聽benefits for society,鈥 said Dominique B茅rub茅,聽Vice鈥慞resident,聽Research聽and Innovation at 成人VR视频. 鈥淚 congratulate our new and renewed Chairholders and thank the Government of Canada for its continued investment in聽world鈥慶lass聽research at 成人VR视频.鈥

A new CRC in the Faculty of Science:

,聽James聽成人VR视频聽Professor in the Department of Physics and聽newly appointed聽CRC聽in Experimental Subatomic聽Physics聽is tackling two of the聽biggest unanswered questions in modern physics: the nature of the Higgs boson and the identity of dark matter.

The Higgs boson is a unique particle that helps explain how matter gets its mass.聽Vachon鈥檚 team is developing聽new聽instrumentation for the聽the聽High鈥慙uminosity聽Large Hadron Collider,聽the world鈥檚 most powerful particle accelerator,聽which is聽set to become operational in mid-2030.聽Using this unique research infrastructure,聽Vachon鈥檚聽team aims to make the first direct measurement of聽how Higgs bosons interact with each other, offering new insight聽into the origins of mass in the early moments of the聽universe.

In parallel,聽in collaboration with聽Jack Sankey聽of the Department of Physics,聽she is pioneering a聽novel聽approach to dark matter detection聽using聽ultra鈥憇ensitive, supercooled detectors and advanced聽quantum sensing聽techniques.聽Her research program brings together聽expertise聽from diverse disciplines聽to push the boundaries of fundamental science.
