TIM CAULFIELD: 鈥淭he Truth About What Makes Us Healthy鈥
We have long known the basic steps to good health. The truth is, in fact, relatively straightforward. But there are a vast number of social forces twisting what we are told about how to avoid disease, lose weight, get fit, and prevent the inevitable decay that comes with aging. In this talk, Caulfield will outline both the social forces that distort the presentation of health information and simple truth about what makes us healthy.
JOHN IOANNIDIS: 鈥淚mprovements in Reproducible Research鈥
John Ioannidis will present empirical evidence on the replication patterns and adoption or not of reproducible research practices in diverse scientific fields. Many fields face increasingly the situation where there is a vast number of potential hypotheses being tested, and protection from bias is imperfect. Many of the early findings cannot be replicated in subsequent studies or are exaggerated estimates. There are several measures that can be adopted that would strengthen the reproducibility of research findings.
