Dr. Tanya Matthews鈥檚 research explores how cultural diversity influences early reading skills and achievement. She examines oral language and emergent literacy practices within Black families facing economic hardships, using a community-based participatory research approach. Her work also focuses on differential diagnosis and developing effective treatments for children with speech sound disorders from diverse backgrounds and environments. She aims to encourage participation in research within the Black community across Canada and the United States and to showcase the range of knowledge within and between communities to inform evidence-based practices and inspire future research efforts.
