Join us for a ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ School of Information Studies (SIS) Seminar Series talk on the role of trust in organizational knowledge sharing with Dr. Max Evans.

ABSTRACT

Interpersonal and organizational trust is the foundation of a successful organizational culture. A culture of trust increases firm performance, fosters a capacity for individual and collective action, increases organizational learning, reduces problem complexity and uncertainty, and helps to uncover innovative solutions. Trust also plays a critical role in information and knowledge sharing – enhancing collaboration and cooperation, as well as encouraging knowledge creation and transfer. To gain a broader perspective of trust in organizations, we will examine the basic definition of trust and look at how it relates to information and knowledge sharing. In addition, we will discuss characteristics of a trusting organizational culture and tactics for gauging and measuring trust and organizational culture. We will conclude by proposing some imperative individual and leadership behaviours for building trust in the organization.
