Research Seminar: "Cognitive Psychology and Spatial Information Interaction." Dr. I. Frissen

Monday, December 3, 2012 10:00to11:15
School of Information Studies, 3661 Peel, Rm. 106, Montreal, CA

Join us for a talk by guest speaker Dr. Ilja Frissen on cognitive psychology and spatial information interaction.

Dr. Frissen will discuss the concrete level of spatial information interaction through a tour of his work, demonstrating a broad interest in the wide range of cognitive and sensorimotor processes involved in how we process and interact with spatial information. There will be a particular focus on the multimodal nature of these processes. He will also address ways of facilitating a natural interaction with spatial information such as navigating large scale virtual environments.

Dr. Ilja Frissen is Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Intitut de Recherche en Communications et Cybern茅tique, Nantes, France. His research centers on how we acquire, represent, and interact with spatial information of the world. The involved processes are active at various levels of abstraction. At the most concrete level we use perceptual processes such as seeing and hearing the 3D structure of our immediate environment. At more intermediate levels we can use information stored in our memories. However, at highly abstract levels we have access to spatial information that is in fact "unseeable", but that nevertheless strongly influences our decision making.

Everyone is welcome.
