Reflective listening is the "bread and butter" of social work practice and critical to building relationships. Validation is the strate-gic use of reflective listening to communicate empathy and under-standing. "Levels of validation鈥 have been elaborated within the Dia-lectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) framework and will be described and contextualized for effective intervention with clients.
