Strengths-Based Nursing and Healthcare Leadership (SBNH-L) Program: Completion of Cohort 1 and Launch of Cohort 2

The first cohort of the Strengths-Based Nursing and Healthcare Leadership (SBNH-L) Program is now complete! We are thrilled to welcome the second cohort of established and emerging healthcare leaders from Montreal and Toronto, who will begin the program mid-May.

We are delighted to announce the completion of the first cohort of the Strengths-Based Nursing and Healthcare Leadership (SBNH-L) Program! The cohort comprised 56 participants from our five partnering hospital institutions: CIUSSS du Centre-Ouest-de-l'脦le-de-Montr茅al, CIUSSS de l鈥橭uest-de-l鈥櫭巐e-de-Montr茅al, Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital (Toronto), The Hospital for Sick Children (Toronto) and the 成人VR视频 Health Centre. Participants, faculty, and mentors celebrated this accomplishment in a virtual ceremony on March 25th, recognizing the great dedication and work that lead to the success of this program.

鈥淧articipating in this course gave me new perspectives, new ways of looking and acting on the different situations we see in our nursing practice. It was enlightening.鈥 鈥 Paulette Morris, RN, BSN, MeD, participant

Twelve training modules, taught by experienced faculty from the clinical and education sectors, took this cohort of healthcare leaders through the process of applying the four core foundations and eight values of SBNH to their leadership, partnerships, and workplace environments. Six months of mentorship accompanied the modules and continued after their completion, offering space to process and reflect as participants continued to build, broaden, and deepen their learnings into their professional practice.

鈥淭he mentoring sessions were a gift for me, reminding me of the importance of nursing leadership and my own purpose in life. Thank you for creating this program.鈥 鈥 Isabelle Caron, MSc.N, mentor

Participants were also given the option of developing a capstone change project, to implement and advance SBNH within their professional settings. More than 20 projects are currently underway or completed. A sampling can be viewed here.

鈥淭he capstone was what helped me 'connect the dots' between the philosophy and leadership change management. I believe as nurses we do integrate a Strengths-Based approach to care but to connect it with Leadership is another layer of complexity and consideration... one that is possible.鈥 鈥 Ana DiMambro, RN, BScN, MSN, CRN(C), participant

Our heartfelt congratulations to every member of this first cohort 鈥 participants, faculty, and mentors! Their shared expertise, experience, wisdom, curiosity, and openness made this program a tremendous success.

The second cohort will launch on May 12th, this time to over 70 participants with 28 mentors and 25 faculty. It will run from mid-May to mid-October. We are delighted by the large number of people engaged in this second cohort, a testament to the great success of the first. We are excited to welcome the second cohort of SBNH Leaders and to continue the journey of transforming nurses鈥 work environments through Strengths-Based Nursing and Healthcare Leadership.

The SBNH-L Program is supported by a CIHR & SSHRC Healthy Productive Work Partnership Grant awarded to Dr. Laurie Gottlieb of 成人VR视频鈥檚 Ingram School of Nursing. Evaluation findings on the program are forthcoming.
