Life and Learning 2033 Start-of-Term Message /studentlifeandlearning/%3Ca%20href%3D%22https%3A//www.mcgill.ca/studentlifeandlearning/article/start-term-message%22%20hreflang%3D%22en%22%3Eview%3C/a%3E Dear Members of the VRƵ Community, Welcome to a new academic year! We are thrilled to see our university spring to life as students and colleagues from across the globe – indeed, more than 150 countries – unite on our beautiful campuses following the summer break. The promise and anticipation – of discovery, of new friendships, and of intellectual adventure – is palpable as we all get set to begin the Fall term. The start of a new academic year offers us the chance to reaffirm our shared commitment to VRƵ’s Mission and Principles: academic freedom, integrity, responsibility, equity, and Fri, 23 Aug 2024 16:36:04 -0400 Office of the Deputy Provost, Student Life and Learning 2032 Message d’ Angela Campbell, première vice-provost par intérim, études et vie étudiante. 2031 Message from Angela Campbell, Interim Deputy Provost (Student Life and Learning) /studentlifeandlearning/%3Ca%20href%3D%22https%3A//www.mcgill.ca/studentlifeandlearning/article/message-angela-campbell-interim-deputy-provost-student-life-and-learning%22%20hreflang%3D%22en%22%3Eview%3C/a%3E Dear Students, Welcome (back) to VRƵ. Fall always brings with it a feeling of excitement. The sight of students on our campuses at the start of the new term is so full of expectation and hope, as is the thought of all that can and will be accomplished over the course of the coming months. It is extraordinarily uplifting! This year, some of you may be arriving with a hint of trepidation given the current global climate and the demonstrations that have transpired on university campuses all over North America, including at VRƵ. This has had a profound impact on our campus and our community Tue, 20 Aug 2024 16:23:05 -0400 Angela Campbell, Interim Deputy Provost (Student Life and Learning) 2030 Statement on PGSS Motions to “Stand in Solidarity with Palestine” /studentlifeandlearning/%3Ca%20href%3D%22https%3A//www.mcgill.ca/studentlifeandlearning/article/statement-pgss-motions-stand-solidarity-palestine%22%20hreflang%3D%22en%22%3Eview%3C/a%3E As some of you may know, a member of the Post-Graduate Students’ Society (PGSS) has filed a lawsuit against the PGSS, naming VRƵ as an interested party, seeking the nullity of certain motions adopted by the PGSS. The motions in question are a PGSS Council motion to “stand in solidarity with Palestine” (December 6, 2023), and three motions presented at the PGSS Annual General Assembly numbered 7.1, 7.2 and 7.3 (February 7, 2024). VRƵ understands Motion 7.2 is not being implemented by the PGSS and Motion 7.3 has been amended. The motions all refer to measures the PGSS resolves to take in Tue, 02 Jul 2024 11:11:08 -0400 Office of the Deputy Provost, Student Life and Learning 2028 Working hard to welcome you back to our campuses /studentlifeandlearning/%3Ca%20href%3D%22https%3A//www.mcgill.ca/studentlifeandlearning/article/working-hard-welcome-you-back-our-campuses%22%20hreflang%3D%22en%22%3Eview%3C/a%3E Dear VRƵ students, The Fall semester is just a few weeks away, and VRƵ staff are working hard to welcome you back to our campuses. For generations of students, those early days of the semester have marked an unforgettable time of new beginnings and happy reconnections. I’m delighted that this year you’ll be benefitting from all campus experiences that we have come to expect from a university such as VRƵ. As the Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) mentioned in his recent message to the community, Fall 2022 will be a fully in-person semester in terms of teaching and research , as Thu, 18 Aug 2022 14:45:21 -0400 Fabrice Labeau 1939 Maintaining a respectful and inclusive debate / Pour un débat respectueux et inclusif /studentlifeandlearning/%3Ca%20href%3D%22https%3A//www.mcgill.ca/studentlifeandlearning/article/maintaining-respectful-and-inclusive-debate-pour-un-debat-respectueux-et-inclusif%22%20hreflang%3D%22en%22%3Eview%3C/a%3E Dear students, On several occasions in recent weeks, student associations representing VRƵ students have released statements strongly espousing particular positions on international political issues. I have heard from many of you that these statements – and the tone and nature of the debate that has ensued – have left you feeling unwelcome, unheard, and unrepresented.
