Requirement for Work Permit

Knowledge of French听is not required听to听obtain听an initial听work permit听to work in Quebec, nor is it,听at this time,听required听to renew听a听work permit.

Starting听in December听2028,听a beginner level of听oral听French听will be听required听after 3 years in Quebec听to obtain a听work permit based on a听Labour听Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) and听Certificat听d鈥檃cception听du Qu茅bec (CAQ).听

• The requirement will only apply after听3 years in Quebec as a temporary foreign worker听on a work permit. Time spent in Quebec as a student or a visitor will not count towards the 3 years of residence.听

• The minimum language level will听be听beginner听(level 4)听oral听expression and comprehension.听听

• There is听no written听component.听

• Though听for now听only targeting LMIA-based work permits,听French language requirements听may be extended to other types of work permits.听听

Requirement for Permanent Residence

Almost all听programs for permanent听selection听by Quebec require听knowledge of French (oral and written听proficiencies). Spouses听can be required听to have a beginner level of spoken French.听

The听听of the Skilled Workers Selection Program, open to research chair holders听and university professors,听does not require knowledge of French, though it may听be an听.听听

There are听also听no language requirements to听听or another eligible family member.听听

Resources on Campus

The Mon Fran莽ais Program provides French language courses for international tenure-stream and ranked CAS colleagues. Spouses of eligible faculty members are also welcome and encouraged to participate. The goal of the program is to help new faculty become conversant in French in order to facilitate engagement with the broader community in Montr茅al and in Qu茅bec, and to prepare them for the Test d'茅valuation du fran莽ais adapt茅 pour le Qu茅bec (TEFAQ). 成人VR视频 will reimburse the TEFAQ fees for eligible faculty members and their spouses.
