Theo Chambon, U2, Joint Honours Political Science and African Studies Theo is a Joint-Honours student in Political Science and African Studies. He will be interning at the Center for Democratic Development for Ghana (CDD Ghana) remotely over the summer. The CDD is a non-profit which aims to consolidate democratic institutions in Ghana through policy advocacy and qualitative or quantitative socioeconomic and political research. As an intern for the CDD, Theo will assist research executives with initiatives such as the Afrobarometer and help produce drafts for policy briefs or memos. He hopes to deepen his understanding of political apparatuses and participate in hands-on quantitative research projects on societal issues in West Africa. 听 |

Lia Watson,听Sustainability, Science and Society Lia is finishing her second year at 成人VR视频 as a Sustainability, Science and Society student in the Bieler School of Environment. This summer, Lia will be working with a small team to develop databases and educational tools from a lexicon of ecologically-rooted words. This project, housed within the Center for Human Rights and Environment, aims to re-establish and emphasize the connection between humans and the natural world through exploration and analysis of language, with the goal of encouraging environmental protection and mindfulness. |

Jesse Smith, U2, Joint Honours History and English Literature Jesse is a third-year student at 成人VR视频 currently completing his Joint Honours degree in History and English Literature. They will be working with the Alex Dworkin Canadian Jewish Archives this summer to help organise their collection. He will also assist full-time researchers with various projects. Jesse is incredibly excited to learn more about the archival process and gain hands-on experience with the materials as they plan to pursue a master鈥檚 in information studies later on. |

Anushka Manoj, U0 Anushka Manoj is a first-year Arts student at 成人VR视频 interested in Gender Studies, South-Asian studies, and World Cinemas. Interning at the Kabir Centre for Arts and Culture, she will be working on the South Asian Film Festival of Montreal, which showcases the work of multiple filmmakers on South Asia and its diaspora. A queer South-Asian passionate about films, she is excited for the chance to work behind the scenes and talk to many filmmakers.听 |

Aamna Rashid, M1, English Aamna Rashid is an English M1 student whose research focuses on feminist politics, post-colonial studies, and questions of identity and resistance. She will be interning at Teesri Duniya, a culturally diverse theatre company which seeks to represent marginalized communities and alternate histories. Her project will explore the politics of history-writing through an exploration of 罢别别蝉谤颈鈥檚 archive, the aesthetics and politics of their plays and their affective impact on the audience. Aamna aims to focus on theatre of genocide and explore questions of forced 鈥榰n-belonging,鈥 constructed state of exceptions under oppressive regimes, and the politics of memory. She hopes to explore the revolutionary potential of theatre and its subversive positionality in giving voice to marganilized groups. |
Arts Students Employment Award
Yustine Alejandra Carruyo Soto, U3, Psychology Yustine Carruyo is a third-year undergraduate student majoring in Psychology with a minor in Behavioural Sciences. Her internship will take place in the Pediatric Oncology Neuro Social Lab at Sainte-Justine Hospital. During her internship, she will finalize a research manuscript that assesses risk factors leading to higher cognitive impairments in pediatric brain tumour survivors. In addition, she has been assigned the responsibility of reviewing more than 1000 abstracts to assist the Canadian Pediatric Cancer Consortium in developing a scoping review. Her primary career goal is to improve the quality of life of children through neuropsychology and research. |

She is majoring in Political Science and minoring in both International Development and Hispanic Studies. This upcoming summer, she will be travelling to Lima, Peru to start a new position as an intern at NewLink. As an intern, she will contribute meaningfully to NewLink's mission of providing exceptional corporate communications, public affairs, and crisis management solutions to businesses worldwide. Oliver McNay, U2, International Development Studies In this summer internship with the Catholic Church of Houston, Oliver will be actively involved in two key areas: School Impact and refugee resettlement for migrants from Latin America. Working directly with child refugee clients through School Impact, Oliver will participate in parent orientation sessions, assist with school enrolment, and provide in-school support during the summer. Additionally, Oliver will contribute to the refugee resettlement process, offering guidance and support to migrants from Latin America as they navigate the complexities of starting a new life in the United States. This includes assisting with paperwork, connecting them to essential resources, and promoting their successful integration into their new communities.听 |

Cecilia Gillis, U3, Political Science Cecilia is in her third year of Political Science with two minors in French and European Literature. She will be interning at the New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence, a non-profit that works with advocacy groups and legislators to draft legislation, organize testimony, and advocate for policy change supporting victims and survivors. Cecilia will work with the Public Affairs Team, evaluating legislation and working on future advocacy campaigns and outreach initiatives. Shailee Rajak, M1, English Shailee is a second-year graduate student in the Department of English Literature and Drama. She is currently writing her thesis on queer representation and the politics of gender in postcolonial, Indian drama. During the summer of 2023, she will be interning at the Kabir Centre for Arts and Culture. She will be a member of the Programming Committee for the South Asian Film Festival of Montreal (SAFFM) 2024. The annual festival is committed to providing a platform for filmmakers worldwide whose films have a focus on South Asia. As a scholar of theatre and gender studies, she looks forward to contributing towards the curation of a festival that fosters discussions around diasporic and immigrant experiences through an exploration of cinema. Sara Saleem Daredia, U1, International Development Sara Saleem Daredia, a U1 student majoring in International Development with a minor in Environment, will intern with The Gilgit-Baltistan Environmental Protection Agency (GB-EPA) in Pakistan. This opportunity will allow her to interact with local climate activists, experts, and refugees, documenting their experiences in Gilgit Baltistan's mountainous valleys. Collaborating with GB-EPA's media partners, Ibex Media Network (IMN), Sara will create short documentaries and social media posts to raise national awareness of GB's climate crisis. Pakistan ranks fifth among countries most vulnerable to climate disasters, making GB-EPA's sustainable climate actions particularly crucial. Sara is driven by her passion for addressing environmental challenges and believes her internship will contribute to GB-EPA's efforts while inspiring others to take action. |

Gaya Karalasingam, U3, Political Science Gayathri Karalasingam is a fourth-year student in Honours Political Science. This summer she will have the opportunity to intern with Betsy Elizabeth Trust (Help Kids India), where she will support the non-profit in activities related to advocacy, community outreach, and research on student outcomes to promote sound preschool education and health care for persons of concern. Ilana Nzizera, U2, Economics Ilana Nzizera is an Economics major and International Development Studies minor. This summer, she will intern at the Rwanda Development Board located in Kigali, Rwanda. The RDB has significantly impacted Rwanda's development by driving economic growth, attracting investment, creating jobs, and promoting tourism. Its efforts have contributed to Rwanda's transformation from a post-conflict country to a dynamic and competitive economy, with a positive impact on the livelihoods of citizens. Through this internship, Ilana hopes to gain practical experience, exposure to multidisciplinary work, and insights into economic policy and development. |

Asha Trotz-Motayne, U3, Cultural Studies and History Asha is a fourth year Cultural Studies and History major with a minor in Political Science. This summer she will be interning with Fragments of Hope in Belize, a NGO devoted to coral reef restoration and advocacy for the sustainable management of associated habitats. Asha鈥檚 main role will involve outreach, media creation (mainly video campaigns), and social media development. Camille Balan, U2, Political Science Camille Balan is a U2 student at 成人VR视频 majoring in political science and double minoring in Quebec studies and Hispanic studies. She is interested in human rights, international politics, and Quebec history. Therefore, this summer she chose to intern at the Ligue des droits et libert茅s, a non-profit organization that promotes and defends the universal human rights declaration in Quebec. It鈥檚 their 60th anniversary this year and the 75th anniversary of the universal declaration of human rights as well. During her internship she will be helping them on their various projects such as conferences and interactive maps trying to inform people on the history of human rights in Quebec and on the ongoing battles. 听 听 |

Robert Black, U3,听International Development Studies Robert Black is a third year student in Honours International Development Studies, with minors in East Asian Studies and Urban Studies. This summer he will be interning at the Montreal office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Some of the internship鈥檚 tasks will include attending stakeholder meetings and writing media reports. He is looking forward to gaining more practical experience working on migration and refugee policy and witnessing how the UNHCR works with Canadian institutions to promote refugee rights. 听 |

Giuliana Grabina, U3, Philosophy Giuliana is a third-year undergraduate student pursuing a major in Philosophy and a minor in History. This summer, she will be interning at Equitas 鈥揑nternational Centre for Human Rights Education in Montreal. She will be involved in organizing Equitas鈥 three-week intensive International Human Rights Training Program (IHRTP) at John Abbott College in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, where approximately 90 human rights workers from around 50 countries come to gain knowledge, skills and strategies related to human rights education. 听 听 听 |
