Over the past few weeks, performers, listeners, teachers, and professionals in the worlds of opera and classical music have been united in mourning the death of soprano Jessye Norman (1945 - 2019). Born in Augusta, Georgia (USA),听she remains one of the world's most powerful and moving dramatic sopranos. She was one of the first and only Black singers to rise to international stardom in the opera and recital world, and she inspired several generations of young performers.
Principal tuba of the Orchestre M茅tropolitain and co-founder of the Philharmonie des vents du Qu茅bec, Alain Cazes is a Professor of Brass and Conducting at the Schulich School of Music. In addition to performing, conducting, teaching, and composing, he directs the 成人VR视频 Wind Orchestra, which will join the Royal 22e R茅giment Band on September 27 for a free concert as part of .

Beginning this season, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) welcomes three Schulich School of Music alumni into their esteemed ensemble: Victor Fournelle-Blain (ADip 鈥15) as Principal Violist, R茅mi Pelletier (LMus 鈥04) as Associate Principal Violist, and Yolanda Bruno (BMus 鈥11) as Section Violinist! On their new appointments, Interim Artistic Director Sir Andrew Davis writes, 鈥淲e are delighted that these wonderful musicians have chosen the TSO to be their home for the coming season.

Flutist is this year鈥檚 recipient of the ! Presented biennially in honour of Jean-Pierre Goyer and his contributions to music, arts, and culture in Montreal and the rest of Canada, the M茅c茅nat Musica Prix Goyer is Canada鈥檚 largest classical music prize for emerging young artists.
Now coming up on its 20th edition, the OFF jazz festival has been a mainstay of the Montreal jazz scene by featuring local artists and their creative projects. Since 1994, the Ensemble contemporain de Montr茅al's biennial Generation composition contest has given 61 Canadian composers the opportunity to define their voices and connect with audiences across Canada. This year, and are two of four Generation2020 winners selected from more than 50 applicants.
We're excited to welcome Dorian Komanoff Bandy to Schulich's faculty, where he will beginning a position in historical performance practice and musicology, held jointly between the School's departments of Performance and Music Research.
Two Schulich Early Music graduates, violinist Marie Nadeau-Tremblay (BMus 鈥14, LMus 鈥17, MMus '19) and trumpeter Duncan Campbell (BMus 鈥14, GDip 鈥17, LMus 鈥19) were recently awarded first and second prize听respectively at the Mathieu Duguay Early Music Competition of the . Both offered stellar performances accompanied by the Mission Saint-Charles Orchestra, conducted by Hank Knox.
Daniel Mills (B.Mus 鈥10) has been named the new Executive Director of the Kamloops Symphony!
Born and raised in Calgary, Daniel Mills is an emerging arts leader with a background in performance and administration. His previous position at Arts Commons, Calgary鈥檚 major performing arts centre, included overseeing individual giving programs and donor stewardship at Arts Commons. Daniel has also held administrative positions at the Honens International Piano Competition, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, and One Yellow Rabbit Performance Theatre.
The winner of this year鈥檚 is soprano Elodie Bouchard (MMus 鈥19), who will collaborate with recording engineer Ephraim Hahn (MMus '19) and lutenist Anthony Harvey on the project 鈥17th century music for lute and voice鈥.
Choral conductor Wayne Riddell has long been an important figure in the Montreal and 成人VR视频 music communities, holding positions such as the chorus master of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and professor at the Schulich School of Music. Riddell has established a bequest that will support choral students at 成人VR视频 through two separate funds -- the Wayne Riddell Choral Award, and the Norman Beckow Choral Excellence Endowment Fund (named after his late partner).
Congratulations to saxophonist Jacob Do (BMus 2021), who won the on June 26, 2019. Created as part of the Festival's 40th anniversary, the award is given as part of a competition open to selected Quebec university student musicians identifying as part of a visible minority.
