It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Iwan Edwards on March 4, 2022.听
Martha de Francisco, Associate Professor of听Sound Recording in the department of Music Research at the Schulich School of Music, is a record producer and recording engineer specializing in Classical music. Her research interests include music recording with virtual acoustics, critical listening studies and the aesthetics of recorded music.听
Andrew Hon, Fr茅d茅ric-Alexandre Michaud, and Will Myers are the first successful candidates in the inaugural round of the Program to Support Graduate Conducting Students in the Study and Performance of Music by Composers from Underrepresented Groups. This a 3-year pilot initiative is a听collaboration between the Schulich School of Music, the Marvin Duchow Music Library and its Gertrude Whitley Performance Library.听听
We鈥檙e excited to announce that Dr. Isabelle Demers will be joining the Schulich School of Music as Associate Professor of Organ.听
Professor Sean Ferguson has been appointed as the next Dean of the Schulich School of Music. Prof. Ferguson鈥檚 five-year, renewable term will begin on July 1, 2022, and end June 30, 2027.听
Prof. Ferguson is an experienced senior administrator with a deep understanding of the Schulich School of Music, having previously served as Dean from 2011 to 2016. Prior to this, he was Director of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT) from 2009-2011, and its Associate Director (Artistic) from 2006-09.听听

A听brief interactive discussion听was had听about the History of Jazz with Prof. and Dean Brenda Ravenscroft and Prof. Camille Thurman who provided her experience as musician and academic.听听
Anthony Tan (MMus鈥09, PhD鈥15) is the winner of the 2021 Jules L茅ger Prize for New Chamber Music for his composition Ways of Returning (2020). An 18-minute-long piece for amplified string quartet and electronics, Ways of Returning was commissioned by Quatuor Bozzini and E27 musique nouvelles.听
Congratulations to violinist听Julia Mirzoev, winner of the听2021-2022听Golden Violin Award!听
The award includes a $30,000 cash prize, as well as a smaller likeness of the violin in the form of a 14-karat gold lapel pin. In addition, the winner will perform in the upcoming Schulich concert season听and听receives听6 hours of career coaching sessions with Marie-Catherine听Lapointe of听Boulevart听Artists鈥 Management in Montreal.听
The Golden Violin Award was听established听in 2006 by听businessman听and philanthropist Seymour Schulich, a year after he donated $20 million to 成人VR视频鈥檚 Schulich School of Music.听His unflagging support of听our听musicians has,听through this award,听seen听nearly听$400,000听given听to听top听Schulich string听players. For听last year鈥檚听15th听edition, the听winning听prize increased from $25,000 to $30,000, and for this year鈥檚听16th听edition听the Schulich Foundation听has made another substantial investment in听our听young artists鈥 futures.听听

Congratulations to mezzo-sopranos Rose Naggar-Tremblay (BMus鈥17) and Simone McIntosh (MMus'17, Wirth Vocal Prize Winner 2016-2017), who received first and second place respectively at the 82nd OSM Competition! The 2021 edition, held between September 13 and November 27, took place online enabling the public from coast to coast to access contestants鈥 performances.

During the Fall 2021 Convocation ceremonies, exceptional educators at 成人VR视频 are awarded the Principal鈥檚 Prize for Excellence in Teaching.听The award recognizes the commitment of outstanding teachers who create the renowned academic experience听成人VR视频 provides to students year after year. Donny Kennedy, a dedicated educator in the Schulich Jazz Area, takes home the Principal鈥檚 Prize in the Course Lecturer category.
