Ngugi wa Thiong'o, born in Limuru, Kenya in 1938, is one of the most prominent novelists and writers of the contemporary world, a leading figure in African literature and scholarship, a world-famous theorist of decolonization, post-colonial literature and politics, and Distinguished Professor in the Departments of Comparative Literature and English at the University of California, Irvine.
