Caring Conversations听is an online forum for care partners of people living with dementia to learn from experts, share concerns and ask questions.

Join a conversation with experienced moderators on topics that are important to caregivers. After a short educational presentation by the hosts, there will be an opportunity to share your own concerns and ask questions.

罢丑别听Caring Conversations听webinar platform will permit people to participate online and by telephone. When you register, you will be provided with a link to join online, and a phone number if you prefer to call in. You will need to register online to receive the link and call-in number.

Topic: Sandwich Generation Caregivers

Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. EST

Our next Caring Conversation will take place in English, and will be moderated by social worker Lucy Barylak and professional coach and educator Joanne Besner.

A sandwich generation caregiver is responsible for caring for their own children as well as their aging parents or older dependents. On this episode of Caring Conversations, Lucy and Joanne will discuss the significant emotional, financial and physical stress that sandwich generation caregivers may face as they juggle the needs of these two different generations. They will also discuss the role that grandparents may play in supporting their children in parenting. During this episode, Lucy and Joanne will be joined by caregiver Janice Heft who will share how this role has impacted her relationships.

Meet our moderators for the English sessions

Lucy Barylak

Lucy Barylak, MSW, is a social gerontology consultant for the CIUSSS-West-Central Montreal and a graduate of the 成人VR视频 School of Social Work, where she is also a liaison supervisor. Ms. Barylak has developed evidence-based training for seniors and caregivers, and she lectures in the field of social gerontology and knowledge transfer. She facilitates 鈥淒ear Lucy,鈥 an online caregiver support show funded by the WellMed Foundation in the U.S. She was the founder and long-standing manager of the Caregiver Support Centre at the CLSC Rene-Cassin, a multi-service respite centre for family and informal caregivers. Ms. Barylak received the Queen鈥檚 Jubilee Award for her role in developing a national coalition to support caregivers across Canada.

woman with dark hair and glasses smiling Joanne Besner, BSW, MBA, ACC, received her Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Business Administration from 成人VR视频, and her Professional Coaching designation from the John Molson Executive Centre at Concordia University. Her 35-year career in Quebec community healthcare spans many roles including frontline social work, clinical supervisor, manager, researcher, and trainer. As an International Coaching Federation certified coach specializing in Positive Intelligence and Mental Fitness, Ms. Besner coaches and facilitates workshops and webinars for social service professionals, managers, caregivers, and health and social service organizations, as well as the 成人VR视频 School of Social Work, where she is also a field education supervisor.听

Carmen Desjardins, BSc(N), is the head of the Dementia with Psychiatric Comorbidity Program at the Integrated Health and Social Services University Network for the West Island of Montreal (CIUSSS ODIM).听

She has served on committees as an expert advisor for the Ministry of Health and Social Services and for the Centre of Excellence on Longevity.听Carmen participated in the implementation of the Alzheimer's plan for her sector and in the establishment of the outpatient BPSD (behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia) team for her CIUSSS.

Claire Webster is the founder and ambassador of the 成人VR视频 Dementia Education Program.听She is a certified dementia care consultant, a certified professional consultant on aging, and a conference speaker and educator in the field of cognitive care. She is the founder and president of Caregiver Crosswalk, a consulting firm that provides education and support services to help individuals navigate the journey of Alzheimer's disease and dementia-related illnesses.

As a former care partner to her late mother who passed away from Alzheimer鈥檚 disease, Claire has lived experience on the impact this illness has on a person living with dementia and the ripple effect on family members.
