Teaching Week

During Teaching Week, instructors from the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Science will 鈥渙pen up鈥 their classes for observation by their colleagues. The event offers opportunities for faculty, postdoctoral scholars, and graduate students to observe different teaching styles, gain exposure and learn about different teaching strategies. One of the main objectives of Teaching Week is to promote a culture of classroom and peer observation that can encourage deeper discussions about teaching practices and strengthen our Faculty鈥檚 community of practice.


Past Events

Teaching Week 2021

After not being held in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic, ELATE is pleased to announce its 4th Teaching Week (Open Classroom) event which will be held nominally from Mon, Nov 1 鈥 Fri, Nov 5.

A separate Coffee & Chat will be held on Wed, Nov 10 from 12 鈥 1 pm so that participants can discuss and share their observations and experience with classroom observation.

Some of the strategies that might be featured include: (1) active learning, (2) flipped learning, (3) discussions and case studies, (4) team-based/group-based learning and activities, (5) polling questions, (6) teaching online using a lightboard, and (6) options for streaming online classes (e.g., using Twitch).
