Welcome to the ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ Family Medicine Postgraduate Residency Program
The Department of Family Medicine offers a fully accredited two-year postgraduate training program based in a primary care training centre in one of ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ's teaching units. Regardless of location, the program at any particular centre offers three main components: ongoing experience in family practice, coordinated training in the medical specialties, and exposure to rural practice.

Family Medicine residents will rotate through in-hospital services such as Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Psychiatry. They will also develop their own supervised practices during one to two half-days per week which are spent in their Family Medicine Unit. ÌýFamily medicine supervisors are full-time and part-time practicing physicians who are certified members of the College of Family Physicians.In addition to the hospital-based family medicine training sites, the resident is required to rotate through one of the approved rural training sites in Quebec. Elective time may be spent in other rural or urban practices.
The Unit programs also include an on-going curriculum, which focuses on management of common patient problems in an ambulatory setting. Principles of family dynamics, utilization of community resources, and optimal cooperation with allied health professionals in providing comprehensive care are also emphasized in the two year curriculum.
An optional third year (Enhanced Skills Programs) may be available for individuals with particular interests in emergency medicine, maternal and child health, care of the elderly, sports medicine, palliative care, family medicine research "clinical scholars program" or those headed towards a specific rural or isolated practice.
