Description
Maybe you’ve heard those wonderful words from a professor: "You should try to publish this!" Or you’re about to go on the job market, and everyone is saying you need an article. How do you even get started? This workshop will cover the process of preparing your first academic publication.
Learning Objectives
We will focus on questions like:
• the differences between a seminar paper, a conference paper, an article, and a book chapter
• how much time to set aside
• selecting a journal
• hearing from reviewers
• dealing with rejection
• incorporating reviewer feedback
Instructions
Come to the workshop with a piece of scholarship in mind that you might want to publish, and I’ll help you begin the process.
N.B. We will focus on single-authored publications, which are most common in the social sciences and the humanities, though some of the information may be useful for students in other fields.
Facilitator
This workshop will be led by Dr. Amanda Perry who holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from New York University. She has taught literature at NYU and Concordia, and she has multiple academic publications in peer reviewed journals and edited volumes.
