About Us

The Vice-Dean, Education, portfolio was created in 2016 with a mandate to strategically guide the Faculty on all educational matters. As part of the Faculty's overarching strategic planning exercise, an Education Strategic Plan (2017-22) was implemented to orient this work and track its impact over time.

In 2024, the portfolio was expanded to include Community Engagement. The Office of the Vice-Dean thus oversees a network of teams supporting the overarching educational and community engagement missions of the FMHS, which includes Indigenous priorities, faculty enrichment and development, anti-Black racism initiatives, interprofessional education, and innovative modalities of teaching and learning. It likewise provides strategic support of the educational programs for all six schools in the FMHS through close collaboration with the Associate Deans and Directors of the Schools and educational programs and units within the Faculty, liaising with the broader University, and engaging with provincial and national leaders in education and community engagement.

The Vice-Dean is tasked with developing and facilitating the implementation of cross-cutting initiatives to respond to evolving pedagogical and societal needs, in line with the community engagement priorities in the Faculty鈥檚 strategic plan聽and with the accreditation requirements for all health professional programs.
