​Alex Kiss-Rusk Athletic Financial Award

Established in 2020 by George F. Lengvari, BCL 1966, and the Rossy Foundation, in honour of Alex Kiss-Rusk, BA 2017. Alex Kiss-Rusk led the ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ Women’s Varsity Basketball Team to their first national championship and also represented Canada on the court in international competition.

Alexandre R. Younes Award for Excellence in Swimming and Academics

Established in 2023 by Alexandre Younes, BEng 2023, to support student-athletes at ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ. Awarded by the Athletics and Recreation Awards Committee, upon recommendation of the swimming coach, to promote and facilitate the athletic achievements of academically eligible varsity student- athletes.

Eligibility For one or more varsity student-athletes entering or enrolled in any full-time degree-granting program and who are members of the ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ swim team with demonstrated team spirit and work ethic who have not received another swimming award. First preference will be given to students in the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering with a minimum GPA of 3.3. Second preference will be given to students in the Faculty of Engineering with a minimum GPA of 3.5. Third preference will be given to students in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences with a minimum GPA of 3.5.

Bakish Brothers Eternal Waves Award

Established in 2022 by Joe Bakish, BSc 2005, and Nick Bakish, BCom 2002, to support student-athletes at ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ.

Ben Zwolak Award

Established in 2021 by George Lengvari, BCL 1966 in memory of former Men’s Basketball team manager Ben Zwolak.

Bernard "Bunny" Sabbath Athletic Award

Established in 2014 by Joseph Sabbath, BSc 1943, MDCM 1947 and family, in memory of his brother, Bernard "Bunny" Sabbath, to support outstanding varsity student athletes in a degree program, who demonstrate their athletic and academic skills and prowess.

Canadian Lacrosse Foundation Athletics Award

Established in 2019 by the Canadian Lacrosse Foundation, alongside generous supporters. This is a unique award for the Canadian Lacrosse Foundation, created in honour of its 150th anniversary.

Eligibility Awarded by the Athletics and Recreation Awards Committee to promote and facilitate the athletic achievements of one or more academically eligible varsity student-athletes who are enrolled full-time in any degree- granting program and who are members of a ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ varsity athletic team. First preference will be given to indigenous students who are members of the ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ Varsity Lacrosse Team. Second preference will be given to indigenous students.

Charlie Baillie Football Awards

Established in 2013 by Michael Evans, B.Eng. 1971, in honour of the former Offensive Line Coach andÌýHead Coach of the ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ Redmen football team, Charlie Baillie; the longest tenured coach in ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ history, having served 29 seasons.

Eligibility Awarded by the Athletics and Recreation Awards Committee to promote and facilitate the athletic achievements of one or more academically eligible varsity student-athletes who are entering or enrolled full-tie in any degree-granting program and who are members of the ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ Redmen football team. Preference will be given to offensive linemen.

Claude Généreux and Myriam Legault Excellence Awards

Established in 2021 by Claude Généreux, BEng 1985, and Myriam Legault, Bed 1985, to promote and facilitate the athletic achievements of two or more eligible undergraduate or graduate student-athletes enrolled in any full-time degree granting program and who are members of a ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ Varsity Team.

Eligibility Awarded by the Athletics and Recreation Awards Committee on the basis of academic excellence and a demonstration of exceptional leadership/ mentoring both on and off the field.

Derek Drummond Award

Established in 2024 by Derek’s family, friends, and the greater ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ community in memory of Derek Drummond.

Eligibility Awarded by the Athletics and Recreation Awards Committee to promote and facilitate the athletic achievements of academically eligible varsity student-athletes entering or enrolled in any full-time degree-granting program and who are members of the ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ Martlets Hockey team. First preference to student-athletes enrolled in the Peter Guo-hua Fu School of Architecture. Second preference to student-athletes enrolled in the Faculty of Engineering.

Established in 2019 by Dr. Jarrod Ryan Daniel, BSc 1999 and Mrs. Frederique Daniel, BA 1999.

Eligibility Awarded by the Athletics and Recreation Awards Committee to promote and facilitate the athletic achievements of one or more academically eligible varsity student-athletes entering any full-time degree-granting program and who are members of the ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ Men's Varsity Hockey Team. Preference will be given to student-athletes from Western Canada.

Awarded by the ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ Athletics and Recreation Awards Committee to promote and facilitate the athletic achievements of an academically eligible senior or graduating Varsity student-athlete

Dr. Richard Tomlinson Cross Country and Track Athletic Awards

Established in 2018 by ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ in honour and cherished memory of Richard Tomlinson, PhD 1948, DSc 2001, who undertook his first marathon at the age of 50. Dr. Tomlinson's legacy lives on as one of the University's most illustrious and generous benefactors; among the many areas and initiatives he supported at ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ during his lifetime, he is remembered as an ardent champion of student athletes. R. H. Tomlinson Fieldhouse was named in recognition of his encouragement of ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ Athletics and Recreation.

Eligibility Awarded by the Athletics and Recreation Awards Committee to promote and facilitate the athletic achievements of one or more academically eligible varsity student-athletes who are entering or enrolled full-time in any degree-granting program and who qualify to be members of the men's or women's ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ Cross Country or Track & Field teams.

Preference will be given to student-athletes who graduated from a French language high school or CEGEP in Quebec. ÌýÌý

Harold F. Biewald Football Award

Established in 2008 in memory of Dr. Harold F. Biewald, DDS 1955. Harold Biewald was a member of the ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ intercollegiate football team from 1948 to 1952.

Eligibility

Awarded by a Committee formed by the Department of Athletics and Recreation to promote and facilitate the athletic achievements of one or more varsity student-athletes who are enrolled full-time in a degree granting program, who are in good academic standing, and who qualify to be members of the ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ Redmen Intercollegiate Football Team.

Value Minimum $3,000 annually, renewable.

Heritage Trust Athletic Financial Awards

Established in 2017 by the Heritage Trust Foundation.

Eligibility

Awarded by the Athletics and Recreation Awards Committee to promote and facilitate the athletic achievements of one or more academically eligible varsity student-athletes who are enrolled full-time in any degree granting program and who are members of the ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ Varsity program. Preference will be given to student-athletes who have demonstrated commitment and dedication to their respective sport programs and who are in their graduating or final year of eligibility.

Intel2Talent Athletic Financial Award

Established in 2021 by Intel2Talent Canada Inc. to support student-athletes at ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ.

Eligibility Awarded by the Athletics and Recreation Awards Committee to promote and facilitate the athletic achievements of one or more academically eligible varsity student athletes entering or enrolled in any full-time degree-granting program and who are members of the Martlet Volleyball team, Martlet Soccer team, or Martlet Basketball team. Preference will be given to students facing systemic barriers to education with a preference when possible to Indigenous students.

Michael Soles Football Award

Established in 2014 in honour of Michael Soles, BA 1989, to support outstanding varsity student athletes on the ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ Redmen Football team. Michael Soles graduated with a BA in history and economics. A three-time all-star and two-time All-Canadian, Michael won 48 awards, including 13 as a freshman in 1986 when he captured the Peter Gorman trophy as CIAU rookies of the year. In 1987, he led ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ to a 47-11 Vanier Cup win, winning the Ted Morris trophy as game MVP. Michael was the first CIAU player selected in the 1989 CFL Draft and went on to play 11 seasons for Edmonton and Montreal. He was a three-time CFL all-star, winning the Grey Cup with the Eskimos in 1993. Michael was inducted into the ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ Sports Hall of Fame in October 2000.

Pohlod-Moralejo Best in the West Athletic Financial Award

Established in 2023 by Lois Moralejo Pohlod, BSc(PT) 1979 and Stefan Pohlod, BEng 1979.

Eligibility Awarded by the Athletics and Recreation Awards Committee to promote and facilitate the athletic achievements of one or more academically eligible varsity student-athletes entering or enrolled in any full-time degree-granting program and who are from Western Canada. Preference will be given to student-athletes who are members of the swimming or hockey teams.

Robert Dubeau Student Athlete Award

Established in 2005 by friends and colleagues of Robert Dubeau with matching funds from the University, the Martlet Foundation and the ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ Alumni Association. The award honours the exceptional leadership by Robert Dubeau during his tenure as Director of Athletics from 1976-2005.

Ryan Thorne Martlets Basketball Award

Established in 2023 by George F. Lengvari, BCL 1966, in honour of Ryan Thorne. Ryan Thorne coached the ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ Martlet Basketball Team for 17 years and also coached the team to its first national championship.

Established in 2016 by Michael D. Babcock, BEd 1986, LLD 2013 in honour of his roommates Paul C. Barber, Michael D. B. Bean, David J. Ducharme, Doug M. Harrison and Mark F. Reade.
