The Department of Mechanical Engineering has a world-class group of researchers in vibrations, acoustics and fluid-structure interaction. The group is led by听Professor Luc Mongeau (Canada Research Chair - Tier 1 in Flow Induced Sound and Vibration), Professor Marco Amabili (Canada Research Chair - Tier 1 in Vibrations and Fluid-Structure Interaction), Professor Mathias Legrand (Structural Dynamics and Vibration), and Professor Michael Paidoussis (Thomas Workman Emeritus Professor).
This research group conducts experimental, computational, and theorectical research and workshops on topics, such as nonlinear vibrations, nonlinear dynamics of slender structures, fluid-structure interaction, nonlinear rotordynamics, bladed disks, flow-induced vibrations, thermoacoustics, and biomechanical applications.
Other than the experimental facilities for vibrators and fluid-structure interaction testing, as well as state-of-the-art computational facilities, our primary laboratories have two large water tunnels, wind tunnels, experimental modal analysis system, and laser Doppler vibrometers. As of now, our members are conducting research on the development of new methodologies and applications involved with aerospace, mechanical, biomedical, offshore and nuclear engineering.
