MIMM 324 Fundamental Virology

Description

The course will provide a fundamental understanding of the virology field. The following topics will be covered: virus structure and taxonomy, viral genome replication, viruses and human disease, antiviral therapy, vaccines, genetic variability and diversity, the problem of drug resistance, and virus-host interaction. Emphasis will be placed on human DNA and RNA viruses, including major pathogens such as the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), human papilloma virus (HPV), and the hepatitis C virus (HCV).

Pre-requisites: Biology of Microorganisms MIMM 211, BIOL 200 Molecular Biology , BIOL 201 Cell Biology & Metabolism , or [BIOC 212]
