CTV NEWS | 成人VR视频 researchers discover way to fight brain tumours' resistance to therapy
New findings out of 成人VR视频 in Montreal have revealed a potential way to overcome aggressive brain tumours' resistance to therapy: by deleting a specific gene. Researchers have long been searching for ways to treat Glioblastomas 鈥 the most stubborn type of brain tumour 鈥 as they鈥檙e well known for their resistance to treatment. A few years back, they were able to聽confirm the key role a gene called the OSMR gene plays聽in the process of brain cancer growth. By deleting this gene in mice with tumours created from human patient cells, researchers at 成人VR视频 were able to extend the critter鈥檚 life expectancy post-treatment by more than 50 per cent.聽鈥淲e previously showed (the OSMR) gene regulates tumour growth,鈥 said Dr. Arezu Jahani-Asl, assistant professor of medicine at 成人VR视频 whose lab oversaw聽the study,聽published in聽Nature Communications聽on Monday. 鈥淭hey produce more energy so the cancer cells can use this energy to survive."聽The current process to fight Glioblastomas is to remove them surgically, then perform radiation and chemotherapy on the patient. 鈥淒espite intense efforts, the patients die on average between 16 to 18 months" after diagnosis, Jahani-Asl said. 鈥淭hey always come back, these tumours, and it鈥檚 just impossible to get rid of them.鈥
