The limb deformity division treats congenital (from birth) and acquired problems of both the upper and lower extremities. We are expert in treating posttraumatic limb reconstruction, for fractures that do no unite (nonunions), or become infected. In addition, for patients who have limb length discrepancies, we perform limb lengthening surgery with both internal (PRECICE limb lengthening implants) and external devices (Ilizarov, Taylor-Spatial Frame, limb lengthening rails).

We treat both adult and children with rare conditions affecting the arms and legs. Some of the conditions treated include knock-knees, bowlegs, limb length discrepancy, growth arrest, angular deformity, and stature lengthening.

The MUHC and Shriners Hospital for Children – Canada can now serve pediatric, young adolescent and adult patient with similar pathology. We have developed a transition program to help patients move seamlessly across sites. Together, the providers are able to perform limb deformity, limb lengthening and complex extremity reconstruction across all age groups.
