Do you find yourself saying yes to requests that are inconvenient for you? Is it challenging to offer or accept feedback?ÌýIdentifyingÌýyour own needs, setting clearÌýboundariesÌýand communicating your needs are important skills that can be challenging to implement in the graduate school context. In this workshop, you will learn about assertiveness as well as common patterns that arise in difficult conversations and learn tips to navigate them.ÌýÌý

Roundtable Discussion on Assessment with Dr. Shanon Reckinger, University of Illinois Chicago

Dr. Shanon Reckinger is a Clinical Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies in Computer Science at UIC, and she is well known in the computer science education community for her work on assessment design, especially oral/interactive exams in large-enrollment courses. She has also done work on the impact of oral assessments on student experience (including for underrepresented groups), as well as broader work on belonging, retention, and inclusiveness.
