PHGY Image Contest Submission Form

The Physiology Image Contest focuses on finding microscopy images generated through your research activities in the Physiology Department. We are looking for images that showcase the technical knowledge needed to generate the image (type of sample, labelling, imaging technique) and the technical aspects of the image (no shading artifacts, colour overlays, good resolution) that are also visually appealing.

The winner will receive a $300 prize, second place will receive $200 and third place will receive $100.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

To submit an image, you must be a current physiology trainee (Master’s student, PhD student or post-doctoral fellow). This includes trainees from other departments whose primary supervisor is from the Department of Physiology.

The submitted images must be original and you must have permission to share it and own its copyright. Ensure your supervisor is aware of any images you are submitting to the competition.

Images must have been captured on or after January 1, 2023.

The image file format for submissions must be JPEG only . Image files should be high resolution. Only still images may be submitted.

Each entrant may submit up to two images. Submit your entry by completing the web form below, indicating the image’s title, a brief description of the image, sample type, staining, microscopy platform, objective lens magnification and NA, scale bar and/or pixel size, the name of the person who acquired the image and their PI’s name. Multiple submissions from one laboratory are encouraged.

By entering your image in the contest, you are allowing the Department of Physiology the right to reproduce, publish or communicate it to the public. This may include appearance on the website, social media platforms, brochures, emails or events.

The winners will be chosen via People’s Choice, i.e. the members of the Department of Physiology. Physiology faculty members, staff, graduate students and post-doctoral fellows will each be permitted one vote towards their favourite image. The winners will be announced at the Annual Graduate Research Day on May 10, 2024 as well as through the Physiology website and social media platforms.

The deadline for entries is April 10, 2024 @11:59pm. Voting will take place from Friday April 17– May 7, 2024.
