2. Types of transfer applications

Transfer typeDescription
INTER-FacultyRefers to changing from one degree to another (e.g. from a Bachelor of Science to a Bachelor of Arts & Science.). Please review the section on the implications of an inter-faculty transfer.
Readmission & TransferRefers to students who are returning to their studies after an interruption of one term or more and wish to apply for both readmission to ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ and an inter/intra faculty transfer. Students interested in readmission and transfer should also check out our link about readmission.

3. Implications of INTER-faculty transfer

Before applying for or accepting an inter-faculty transfer, you should be aware of the implications of changing your degree.

Degree requirements

Students who change degrees are required to meet all degree and course requirements of their new degree (consult the B.A. & Sc. degree requirements and course requirements) this includes the Foundation Year Program requirements (consult the B.A. & Sc. Foundation Program requirements).

Tuition rate

If you change degrees by accepting an inter-faculty transfer, your rate of tuition will very likely change. For more information, please consult the following resources

While SOUSA is responsible for processing transfer requests, we do not handle tuition fees and cannot provide information on your expected rate of tuition should you change degrees. Consult the links provided for the appropriate contacts related to tuition fees.

Implications for study away

  • If you have already applied or are applying for an Exchange/Study Away in the upcoming academic year, you must contact the appropriate advisor to discuss how transferring to the Faculty of Science may impact your Exchange/Study Away program.
  • If you have or will study away in the current academic year/summer, you should contact your current Faculty to ensure that your transfer credits will be processed.

Advanced standing and transfer credit

If accepted for an inter-faculty transfer to the B.A. & Sc. any previous advanced standing/transfer credits from courses taken outside of ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ will be reviewed. If you will be receiving any additional credits/exemptions or if any of your previous credits/exemptions will be excluded, you will be informed in your offer of acceptance.

Courses taken outside the Faculties of Arts and Science

If accepted for a transfer into the B.A. & Sc.: You will receive credits for all courses completed in the Faculty of Arts or Faculty of Science and up to 12 credits of approved courses from outside Arts and Science (some exceptions may apply; each applicant is assessed individually).

If any of your completed courses will be excluded from counting towards the B.A. & Sc., you will be informed in your offer of acceptance.

Grade Point Average

If accepted for transfer, your CGPA will continue in the new Faculty reflecting all grades including D, F's, and J's. If the conditions differ from the above, this will be explained in your offer of acceptance.

4. Transfer eligibility and requirements

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • If you are applying to the Multi-track: You must indicate your second program in the Comments section of your application. If you submit an application with only one program indicated, you will be contacted by email and your application will be made incomplete. If you fail to provide this information, your application will be cancelled.

If you are interested in multiple programs in the B.A. & Sc., please indicate all programs that you wish to be considered for (in order of preference) in the Comments section of your application.
  • Honours programs (including Joint-Honours): The Faculty of Science does not have the authority to approve an application to an honours program. If you select an honours program, your application will be changed to the major program. If you are accepted and want to pursue an honours program, you must contact the department and ask for permission to register for this program and only then can you change your program on Minerva.

If applying to multiple B.Sc. program groups and/or multiple degrees

If you are submitting multiple transfer applications (e.g. to the Bachelor of Arts & Science and to a program in the Bachelor of Science), you must list all your choices (in order of preference) in the Comments section of EACH and EVERY application you submit.

8. Next steps

When can you expect a decision?

Faculty decisions are normally made during the months of June and July and will be entered on the Minerva transfer applications. An email will be sent to your ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ account notifying you of a "change of status" to your application. You must then log onto your Minerva transfer application to read the faculty decision and conditions. If you have questions about the decision, please contact the relevant person.

What does it means if your application is "Faculty File Incomplete"?

In some cases, the status of your application may be changed to "Faculty File Incomplete". Please read the details of what information or documents are missing and promptly follow through as requested. Incomplete applications cannot be processed and will eventually be cancelled.

Accepting an offer

If you are offered admission to the Faculty of Science, read the conditions of your acceptance in the "External Comments" field of your Minerva application. You must then "ACCEPT" or "DECLINE" our offer by the indicated deadline.

If you have submitted a transfer application to another Faculty, it is possible you will receive a decision for one application before your other application(s) have been reviewed. If you ACCEPT a transfer offer, any pending applications will be automatically cancelled by Minerva.

9. Contacts

Transfers forContacts
INTER-Faculty Transfer (³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ students in another Faculty who wish to transfer into the B.A. & Sc. degree)

If you are considering transferring into the Bachelor of Arts & Science, we recommend that you first meet with an advisor in your current (home) faculty to discuss your academic plans. You should also review the information provided above to ensure you understand the requirements, deadlines, and process.

If you still have questions after consulting your home faculty and reviewing the website, you may send your questions to advisor.science [at] mcgill.ca (advisor[dot]science[at]mcgill[dot]ca). Please note that, unfortunately, we are unable to offer individual advising appointments to students from outside the Faculty of Science. If your transfer is approved, you will be assigned a degree advisor at that time.

If you are unsure whether you meet the requirements or are missing 1 or 2 course requirements, you may still submit an application. However, please note that we cannot assess individual eligibility or comment on the likelihood of a transfer being approved in advance, these decisions depend on the number of available spaces, the competitiveness of the applicant pool, and the details of each individual file. These factors are reviewed as part of the application process, not before it.
