2018 成人VR视频 Tax Policy Colloquium

The Stikeman Chair in Tax Law is very happy to announce the program for the 2018 成人VR视频 Tax Policy Colloquium, which will take an interdisciplinary approach to tax policy analysis. The colloquium is made possible by a grant from . The distinguished speakers contributed to this year鈥檚 colloquium include:

  • 22 Oct 2018: , Assistant Professor, Faculty of Law, Thompson Rivers University. Prof. Singer's research focuses on tax dispute resolution, the policy rationales underlying tax measures, and the regulation of charities and charitable giving. He is a graduate of 成人VR视频 Law.
  • 12 Nov 2018: , Scientific Director of Fiscal and Economic Policy and Associate Professor, Department of Economics, University of Calgary. Dr. Tedds鈥 research focuses on tax policy and she has done extensive work with the Government of Canada in the areas of public economics and policy implementation.
  • 19 Nov 2018: , Assistant Professor of Philosophy, Leiden University. Prof. Van Apeldoorn鈥檚 research examines the nature and prospects of the sovereign state, with a special focus on the normative aspects of international taxation rules in relation to the global justice.
  • 26 Nov 2018: , Full Professor, Department of Economics, Carleton University and President, Canadian Economics Association. Prof. Wooley鈥檚 expertise and research focus on economics of the family, gender and intra-house inequality, taxation and benefits for and of families, and feminist economics.聽
  • 3 Dec 2018: , Full Professor, School of Law, University of Virginia. Prof. Mason鈥檚 research focuses on international, comparative, and state taxation. Her work on tax non-discrimination laws鈥 effect on cross-border commerce has been cited extensively, including by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Who Pays for Canada: Taxes and Fairness

The Stikeman Chair in Tax Law participated in 成人VR视频 Institute for the Study of Canada's annual conference

Tensions around tax fairness have always provoked political engagement and lively protest. Such tensions account for some of our nation鈥檚 best and worst moments of social solidarity and mutual hostility. On the centenary of income tax in Canada鈥攆irst collected in 1918鈥攚e take the opportunity to explore what 鈥渇airness鈥 means. Is it a technical question or a philosophical one? Is it best resolved by statisticians or lawyers? How to subject such complicated questions to democratic accountability? By asking how Canadians have discussed tax fairness in the past and how we might better do so in the future, our exceptionally diverse array of speakers will lend depth and sophistication to contemporary debates.
