How does Parking & Transportation know I’ve paid? Do I need to leave anything on my dashboard?

No. Nothing needs to be left in your vehicle.

When you pay through HONK, your license plate number becomes your parking credential. ³ÉÈËVRÊÓÆµâ€™s parking enforcement officers receive a real-time list of license plates that have valid sessions in each lot.

This is why it’s important to enter the correct license plate—especially if you are driving a rental vehicle or another household vehicle.

How do I make a parking reservation with the HONK app?

You can reserve parking in advance for ³ÉÈËVRÊÓÆµâ€™s outdoor lots using the HONK mobile app. Reservations can be made up to 2 weeks ahead of time. To reserve a spot, from the App Store or Google Play Store, open it, and search for ³ÉÈËVRÊÓÆµ parking locations. Select the lot you want, choose your date and time block, and confirm your booking.Ìý

What if I reserve parking and no spaces are available when I arrive?

If this occurs, please parking.services [at] mcgill.ca (contact us via email)Ìý´Ç°ùÌýcall us at 514-398-4559. We will issue a full refund, and you can check the app for alternative parking locations nearby.

If I arrive late for a reservation, can I be reimbursed for the unused time?

No. Parking reservations function like booking a room or facility—you reserve the time block regardless of your arrival time.

To avoid paying for more time than you need, you can choose a shorter initial session and extend your parking remotely through the HONK app whenever necessary.

What if I need to cancel my parking session?

If your plans change, HONK allows cancellations up until either:

  • The moment before your session begins, or
  • Within 10 minutes after the start time

If you cancel during this window, you will receive a full refund.

Am I assigned a specific parking space when I reserve through HONK?

No. HONK does not assign individual stalls. You may park in any available space within the lot that corresponds to your purchased permit type.
