Workshop Services

Teaching Support and Supervision Services

Supporting teaching activities is at the top of the workshop services priorities, which include delivering labs, carrying on demonstrations, developing and conducting hands-on training for conventional and CNC machines, supervising students/machines users, providing design consultation, and advising others.

Machining Services

Another key part of our services is to produce components and assemblies for undergraduate students and design teams as well as in support of the Faculty's many research activities. As an alternate choice to external machining, the faculty workshop staff brings significant experience in design and machining to provide a customized support to our research staff. We also offer installation and repair services for mechanical systems in research and teaching labs. We can also guide users to external services when needed.

The machining activities in the Faculty of Engineering Workshop can be classified into three primary machining processes: turning, drilling and milling, which are used to remove excesses of material from a work-piece using power-driven machine tools to shape it into its intended form and design.

Services include:

  • High-end machining for all industries- Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC), and conventional;
  • Prototyping of tools, equipment and mechanisms for most industries;
  • Full service design from concept to complete working drawings, ready for manufacturing and machining.
  • Welding, repairs and fabrication
  • A reliable network of trusted suppliers who can provide clients with necessary material and other elements of work beyond our scope.

Work Order (WO)

Work orders are required to document all projects executed by the Faculty workshop. This includes any work done by workshop staff (designing, machining and supervision) for undergraduate, design team and research projects, and for any time spent on workshop machines by users for research projects, as well as any work by or for a non-engineering听member.

WO Objectives

  • Document and track all projects execution.
  • Provide contact information on the job owner.
  • Ensure the understanding of the job and having required specifications, details and drawings.
  • Identify material and tooling requirements and availability.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by executing the job efficiently and in a听timely manner.
  • Invoice for material, special tooling and charged听services.

WO Protocol

  • A work order must be completed, properly filled with a FOAPAL number, as charging method, before any work commences. All undergraduate capstone project-machining services, such as MECH 463, are free; however, external and industrial sponsor projects will be charged. Any material and special tooling is also subject to charge.
  • After completely filling the work order form, a copy should be printed and signed by the respective professor / fund controller.
  • The printed work order copy should be submitted to the workshop with all related drawings.
  • A work order is given a unique Work Order Number associated with the technician name before any work commences; this includes any formal design.
  • Once a project is completed, work order forms should be finalized as soon as possible, including the count of hours, material and special tooling to be billed, as well as the technician鈥檚 signatures.
  • The professor/fund controller will be contacted by the financial department prior to charging the dedicated fund.

External Support

The workshop welcomes any job requests from clients within the 成人VR视频 Community and external clients, time permitting.
