GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Queen Elizabeth Health Complex (QEHC) has been functioning as an important medical unit since 1894, when it first opened as the Montreal Homeopathic Hospital. In 1951 the hospital was renamed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and it continued to pioneer outstanding medical care. The hospital officially closed in 1995 due to provincial government budget cuts 鈥 and subsequently was reformatted as the QEHC we know it as today 鈥 home to multiple medical specialties, complimentary and alternative medical therapies, and important mental health services.

The Queen Elizabeth family medicine group (GMF) is the family medicine training site associated with the 成人VR视频 Health Center (MUHC). It was created in 2006, when the primary care clinics in the Royal Victoria Hospital and Montreal General Hospital were moved to this building, to practice closer to the community. It is one of the largest GMFs in Quebec and has over 30,000 registered patients. A GMF-R茅seau since 2017, it provides primary care and urgent care to its registered patients and the community 12 hrs a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

The Queen Elizabeth GMF has approximately 30 physicians, and many allied healthcare professionals, including nurse clinicians, nurse practitioners, nursing assistants, pharmacists, dietitians, social workers, a psychologist, and a lactation consultant. Specialty clinics exist for perinatal and newborn care, lactation consulting and surgical procedures.

There is a strong academic element to the clinic both in educational and research areas. Grand rounds from the MUHC are presented via teleconference every week.

Additional Information

Residents are responsible for a practice of approximately 150patients of varying demographics, and follow them throughout their two years of training. They work closely with the interprofessional team to provide ongoing care for their patients. Residents will also follow pregnancies from beginning until delivery, and have the opportunity to follow newborns afterwards as well.
