From Seminar Paper to Journal Article

Maybe you鈥檝e heard those wonderful words from a professor: "You should try to publish this!" Or you鈥檙e about to go on the job market, and everyone is saying you聽苍别别诲听an article. How do you even get started? This workshop will cover the process of preparing your first academic publication. We will focus on questions like:

  • the differences between a seminar paper, a conference paper, an article, and a聽book chapter
  • how much time to set aside
  • selecting a journal
  • hearing from reviewers
  • dealing with rejection
  • incorporating reviewer feedback

This workshop will be held online on Wednesday May 11, 2022, from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm. Registrants will receive the Zoom link in a confirmation email.

Come to the workshop with a piece of scholarship in mind that you might want to publish, and I鈥檒l help you begin the process.

N.B. We will聽focus聽on single-authored publications, which are most common in the social sciences and the humanities, though some of the information may be useful for students in other fields.

This workshop will be聽led by Dr. Amanda Perry who holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from New York University. She has taught literature at NYU and Concordia, and she has multiple academic publications in peer reviewed journals and edited volumes.
