Dr. Hanie Edalati is a Research and Policy Analyst at the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA). She has completed her CIHR-funded postdoctoral fellowship at the CHU Sainte-Justine Research Centre at University of Montreal, and the Center for Research on Children and Families (CRCF) at ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ (2017-2020). She is the recipient of CIHR/IRSC and CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowships, the Fonds Maria et Georginia Daoussis’s Young Investigator Fellowship, and the FRQ’s DIALOGUE – Volet Relève étudiante.

She investigates the neurocognitive and personality mechanisms that link the experience of childhood victimization (Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), complex trauma, peer victimization/bullying) to the risk of substance use disorders, criminal justice involvement, and psychopathology. She uses the outcomes of this research to design/adapt and implement intervention programs for building resilience against substance use and related problems in underserved and marginalized groups of youth.
Prior to joining her postdoctoral position at the University of Montreal, she was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the BC Forensic Psychiatric Hospital and University of British Columbia for one year. She has completed her PhD degree at Departments of Psychology and Psychiatry, University of British Columbia, funded by a PhD fellowship from the Intersections of Mental Health Perspectives in Addictions Research Training (IMPART). Dr. Edalati has a background in clinical psychology from Iran where she worked both as a clinician and researcher with individuals with substance use disorders for four years.
