Focus
Dr Soualhine obtained his PhD in Morocco – Pasteur Institute on drug resistant tuberculosis. He did his post-doctoral training, at University de Bourgogne - France on whole genome sequencing, at CHUL – Laval University in Québec on genomic and proteomic of drug-resistant S. pneumoniae and as scientist at UBC on development of new recombinant BCG vaccine. With Behr’s Lab at ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ, he collaborated on NOD2 and Crohn’s disease pathology and molecular epidemiology of TB.
As chief of the National Reference Center for Mycobacteriology at the National Microbiology Laboratory (NRCM-NML), he is leading a dynamic group who provide diagnosis, reference and surveillance services for tuberculosis and non-tuberculous mycobacteria. The scope of the NRCM also includes applied research activities related to molecular epidemiology, outbreak investigation, and new tools of rapid detection and characterization. The NRCM team members are also deployed in the northern communities in collaboration with the territorial / provincial governments and communities for active and latent TB wide-community screening. This program is funded and supported by the Public Health Agency of Canada.
His research group exploits cutting-edge omics technologies such as next-generation sequencing and mass spectrometry-based proteomics and transcriptomics, combined with computational approaches, to advance our understanding of Mycobacterium tuberculosis transmission, pathogenesis, drug resistance and host-pathogen interactions.
