The CSSS de la Baie-des-Chaleurs is already working in partnership with Place aux jeunes, an organization that promotes young graduates moving to and remaining to work in the region. For this project, it also has the support of the municipalities and their welcoming committee.
CLIENTELE
The CSSS de la Baie-des-Chaleurs’ project targets students or recent graduates who are qualified, motivated and able to communicate in English and French, who also want to move to the region and, among other things, work in nursing and rehabilitation.
DESCRIPTION
The CSSS de la Baie-des-Chaleurs serves a clientele that is 14.9% English-speaking. Located far from major city centres, the institution wants to develop a working environment that promotes attracting and integrating young recruits (interns and employees) who are able to communicate in English and French and to meet the clientele’s growing needs. More specifically, as part of the A Bridge to Hiring program, the CSSS de la Baie-des-Chaleurs aims to recruit and hire five interns or employees in order to improve accessibility to services for its English-speaking clientele. ÌýTo meet this objective:
In 2012, the institution will implement a co-development group for these new employees. The group aims, among other things, to expand each of its members’ capacity for action and reflection by emphasizing the sharing of experiences. The CSSS will also train a monitoring committee comprising key figures who will ensure proper development of the project and its implementation within the organization. The institution also plans to create Facebook and Twitter accounts in English and French and to produce "animated memos" in order to publicize the strategies employed.ÌýÌýÌý
BUDGET ALLOCATED FOR 2012-2013: $12,500
ACTIVITIES COMPLETED
Four interns (two in nursing, one in occupational therapy, one in secretarial support) completed an internship at the CSSS de la Baie-des-Chaleurs as part of the Un pont vers l’embauche program. As part of the program, many other internships were also completed during winter 2012 and spring 2013. Fifteen Cégep nursing students participated in a one-day job-shadowing program. The CSSS also hired two nurses, one orderly, four administrative officers and two human relations officers. A nursing student also worked at the CSSS. In September 2012, a committee made up of new employees, whose job titles are considered vulnerable, was formed to discuss new recruitment and retention strategies. Some of the measures that were either implemented or are currently in various planning phases following this meeting, include the creation of a Facebook account, revamping the website, a new image and translating the new welcome document. The revamping of the Intranet and website was done to reflect the new image. The Facebook page will follow. The CSSS also had all of its new employees (nursing and psychosocial workers) participate in the learning organization program. To facilitate the integration of new arrivals (interns and employees), an English speaking nursing and psychosocial health mentor was named. Animated memos promoting the new recruitment strategies are being produced and should be distributed starting at the end of April 2013.

BUDGET ALLOCATED FOR 2012-2013: $12,500
ACTIVITIES COMPLETED
To help attract interns to the region’s institutions, the CSSS de La Côte-de-Gaspé opened a house for interns in 2012.Starting in the fall, three interns at the CSSS received housing through the Un pont vers l’embauche program. Two of the three interns were physiotherapy students at Université Laval and the other one was an occupational therapy student at ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ. In total, these students completed 89 days of internship. The CSSS also implemented an e-learning system, intended for supervisors, to help create, manage and distribute educational materials for interns. A committee was created to establish internship supervision criteria to position the CSSS as a stimulating internship environment. The committee developed a welcome and integration program for interns and planned satisfaction surveys for interns to ensure that these new procedures are implemented. Finally, a communications plan aimed at positioning the CSSS de La Côte-de-Gaspé as an employer of choice that services a community that is both French and English speaking is currently being finalized.
