CLIENTELE
This CSSS de Gatineau’s proposal is intended for internship supervisors and interns who are able to meet the needs of an English-speaking clientele.
DESCRIPTION
In order to meet the needs of its English-speaking clientele, the CSSS de Gatineau has set out to increase internship possibilities for students who are able to meet the needs of this clientele, create internship requests and encourage employing technicians and professionals who are able to meet the needs of the English-speaking population. It also seeks to increase, manage and standardize the quality of welcoming these interns. Finally, the CSSS de Gatineau has also set out to increase and manage internship supervisor training and to support these supervisors in performing their duties. To meet this threefold objective:
The CSSS de Gatineau is implementing four well-targeted activities. A video in English and French promoting the Outaouais region, the CSSS, its services and fields of excellence will be produced and aired. An intern welcome guide will also be created, with special attention to the quality of its graphic presentation and content. This guide will present the mission, vision, values, policies and characteristics of the CSSS de Gatineau. This guide will be translated into English. In order to increase the skill level of experienced supervisors and to train new supervisors adequately, the CSSS de Gatineau plans on giving them time to participate in the CNFS training workshops. Finally, to support supervisors in performing their duties and to provide them with the same tools, the CSSS de Gatineau will produce a supervisor’s guide containing, among other things, the fundamentals of a good preparation and providing intern feedback and evaluation tools. This guide will be translated into English, which could help recruit more English-speaking supervisors.

PROJECT TITLE
Access to the Jeunes Explorateurs d’un Jour (JEUJ) Program in the Outaouais Region – Second Edition 2012-2013
AGENCY
Agence de la santé et des services sociaux de l’Outaouais (ASSSO)
PARTNERS
The ASSSO project received approval from nine health and social services institutions and twelve high schools spread over five territories in the region. It also received support from the Outaouais Health and Social Services Network (OHSSN).
CLIENTELE
The clientele targeted by this project is made up of high school and college-level students who are able to respond to the needs of an English-speaking clientele.
DESCRIPTION
The purpose of the ASSSO project is to promote and develop occupations and professions in the health and social services sector with students, high schools and colleges in the Outaouais region. It aims to increase the participation of educational institutions and health and social services institutions in the Jeunes Explorateurs d'un Jour (JEUJ) program so as to reach a greater number of English-speaking or bilingual students. As part of this project, the ASSSO has set a target of 80 one-day internships. To meet this objective:
Promotional activities will be organized with educational institutions in the Outaouais region and the health and social services network. Twelve such meetings have been planned with the target audience and promotional materials have been prepared. These activities will be led with a large pool of participating schools including 16 high schools (6,087 students), four English-language high schools (1,114 students), one English-language college (1,024 students) and one Cégep with both English-speaking and French-speaking students (3,360 students). JEUJ allows 4th and 5th year high school and college students to explore a trade or profession for a day by pairing them with a mentor who works in the target sector. The employee agreeing to host the explorer must plan a scenario that will allow the student to have hands on contact with the work while showing him the various facets of a career in this sector.

All internships were at the secondary school level. As part of the Un pont vers l’embauche program, the agency also planned a second day on February 14, 2013.Twenty-four pupils participated. In total, 16 educational institutions participated in these two days. In its commitment to promote youth participation in the JEUJ program with its potential partners, the agency held two meetings with the region’s school boards. The first was held in May 2012, with the Francophone school boards and the other in June 2012 with the Anglophone school boards.
