Priority Objectives
Provide English speakers in the region with intake, referral and intervention services in their own language; this involves improving the English language proficiency of target personnel staffing the services named in the regional accessibility program (intake, health, and social services).
Ease language barriers by developing French-speaking staff’s language knowledge and skills for providing English-language services to clients who request them.
Enable workers in participating institutions to obtain and provide necessary information.
Enable health personnel to discuss care needs and plans with English-speaking users.
Enable psychosocial staff to update therapeutic interventions for English-speaking clients.

Description of Planned Activities
Needs analysis, placement testing, immersion training, individualized learning, training evaluation, training certification, learning support outside of course times.
Maintenance of acquired skills and development activities:
Professional exchanges with students from Bishop’s University (CHUS); English conversation with volunteers; suggestions for practising English are provided during training; experience in the workplace; reading newspaper articles; referral of English-speaking clients to staff trained in English; awareness building on the importance of continued learning; holding a part of meetings in English; attending conferences and symposia in English; themed lunches.
