With the Work Study Program, you’ll be reimbursed a portion of the hourly wage - all while supporting students in financial need.Ìý Using Quebec government grants and operating monies, Scholarships and Student Aid offers subsidies to employers every year.Ìý Take advantage of this cost-saving program and hire a Work Study student.ÌýIt’s easy: apply, request subsidy hours, hire a student, and get reimbursed!

Base subsidy: $5.00 of student’s hourly wage 

Faculties of Arts and Science: Additional subsidy! Fill your position with a student studying in your faculty and get 10$/hour reimbursed.

How it works

Apply each term for subsidy hours.ÌýThen, post your job and hire a Work Study student.Ìý You’ll receive your wage subsidy with each pay period (³ÉÈËVRÊÓÆµ employers) or at the end of the academic term (³ÉÈËVRÊÓÆµ-affiliated employers).

Who can apply?

³ÉÈËVRÊÓÆµ faculty and staff, as well as affiliate employers, looking to fill part-time jobs that are on-campus or on ³ÉÈËVRÊÓÆµ affiliated sites.Ìý  

·¡±ô¾±²µ¾±²ú¾±±ô¾±³Ù²âÌý

A ³ÉÈËVRÊÓÆµ employer or ³ÉÈËVRÊÓÆµ-affiliated* employer must: 

  • Be on the University campus, or in facilities owned, leased or rented by the University, or on a ³ÉÈËVRÊÓÆµ-affiliated site.Ìý
  • Pay an hourly rate equivalent to or greater than the minimum wage under the current  Collective Agreement.Ìý
  • Be flexible in accommodating students’ academic schedules.Ìý

*Organizations such as SSMU, MUHC, CKUT, and others are considered ³ÉÈËVRÊÓÆµ-affiliated employers.Ìý They are non-³ÉÈËVRÊÓÆµ organizations where a staff member is working in association with ³ÉÈËVRÊÓÆµ.

Eligibility Details

³ÉÈËVRÊÓÆµ or ³ÉÈËVRÊÓÆµ-affiliated employers must: 

  • Not contravene any labour agreements.Ìý
  • Have a Supervisor and a payroll person/³ÉÈËVRÊÓÆµÂ administrative delegate who will share responsibility for: 
    • ³ÉÈËVRÊÓÆµ employers: Creating a job requisition in Workday linked to pre-established job catalogues 
    • Posting the job (preferably in myFuture).Ìý
    • Interviewing and hiring Work Study students.Ìý
    • Providing supervised employment in accordance with the pre-determined job description.Ìý
    • Ensuring that the student is placed on payroll and that bi-weekly payroll reports are submitted, covering the actual hours worked in a given pay period.Ìý
    • Adhering to the appropriate Collective Agreement  governing a ³ÉÈËVRÊÓÆµ Casual Employee.Ìý
    • ³ÉÈËVRÊÓÆµ-affiliated organizations: Affiliates must have a ³ÉÈËVRÊÓÆµÂ .Ìý
